Tap water in your home should be a near neutral pH. A pH of 7 is neutral, so anywhere between 6.5 - 8.5 is fine. Numbers lower than 6.5 are more acidic (soft water) which is actually more corrosive and damaging to pipes and marble than alkaline (hard water) at 8.5 or above.
