The SenGuard Permanent Marble & Granite Sealer can be applied over Dupont, Miracle, SCI or any other sealer on the market. However, SenGuard (or any sealer) must be able to absorb effectively in order to work.

So, if a sealer was just recently applied to your countertop or floor, then it is best to perform the water test for sealing granite & marble to determine how absorbent the stone is currently. A sealer must be applied properly in order to effectively seal the stone and performing this test will tell you if the stone is still absorbent or not.

If testing shows water takes 15 minutes or more to absorb, then there is really no need to apply SenGuard right now. Wait a year or so for the first sealer to break down some and then apply the SenGuard Sealer.

If testing shows the stone is absorbent enough to apply a sealer, then prep the surface by washing and scrubbing with acetone or lacquer thinner before applying SenGuard. This will remove any residues from previous sealers or other substances.
